Our Mission

...it's actually God's mission!

And yours too!

Here's some of the stuff God is doing through our family:

Erik is the pastor for the English speaking congregation at Tokyo Lutheran.  In addition to the normal pastor stuff (Sermons, Bible studies, newsletter articles, and providing pastoral care) he also participates in many things with the Japanese congregation.  He often preachers or leads the children's Japanese worship service. He is active with Pastor Cafe. He provides English lesson for those at the local seminary.  Erik plays in the Handbell Choir.  He teaches English twice at week at Hongo Lutheran Student Center. In addition, he does the dishes and gives Nozomi-chan her bath on Friday nights.

Tauna takes care of the logistics for the family as well as all communications with sponsors.  She maintains the blog and newsletters.  She hosts Women & Wine once a month and is working on starting a bilingual prayer shawl ministry.  She also teaches bible study at the Hongo Center once a week. She keeps busy taking care of baby and meeting new people.

Nozomi-chan is busy learning about the world.  She loves to eat Japanese curry and onigiri.  She is taking sign language class.  She goes to playgroup on Fridays were she tries to be like the "big kids." She is also into everything.

Together all of us are learning Japanese and walking along those we meet.  We feel strongly about building a community of Christians that can support each other, even when we don't agree.  We do our best to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone we encounter.  We also love to host parties and events.
