Meet the Roths

Rev. Erik, Tauna, Nozomi, & Ronin

Erik grew up in Colorado Springs, CO and his parents still live there. He graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI with a degree in Environmental Studies. He was on the swim team all four years of college and was the captain his senior year. After college Erik went to Asia for about three years. He taught English in S. Korea and Thailand and did some volunteer work in Kathmandu, Nepal. Experiencing new cultures is one of Erik’s main passions in life. After he returned from Nepal, Erik went to Luther Seminary. While he was completing his degree at Luther, Erik sought out more cross-cultural experiences by studying abroad at the Luther Center in Mexico City and the Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo, Norway. Erik interned in Green Bay, WI.  Erik enjoys Norwegian Flat Plane Carving, home brewing, woodworking and dogs.

Tauna grew up in the very small farming community of Alpha, IL.  She received her BS in Elementary Education from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA.  After graduating from Luther Seminary with an MA in Old Testament she spent three years working as a Parish Educator in Green Bay, WI where she enjoyed teaching confirmation to middle school students and planning mission trips. This is her first experience living abroad. In her spare time she enjoys baking, knitting and reading.

Tauna and Erik met at Luther Seminary.  As friends they attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.  After worship they would frequent the delicious potlucks.  During these potlucks they got to know each other and fell in love.

Together they enjoy playing board games, traveling, mini golf, fantasy football, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.  They also love to host guests for dinner and overnights.

They were married August 13, 2011.

On October 25, 2013 they welcomed their daughter Nozomi into this world.  Nozomi means "hope" in Japanese.  Nozomi enjoys cooking with her parents, playing with her baby dolls and Legos, Chai Tea Lattes from Starbucks, and watching Daniel Tiger. She is an avid reader.

On December 27, 2016 they welcomed the newest member of the family, a son, Ronin.  Ronin means "Samurai without a master" in Japanese.  He enjoys snuggling, drinking milk, and being wide awake at 3am.
